Family Counseling: Family Counseling services provide family support,
education, and availability of a realistic assessment and treatment plan. Counseling is viewed as a natural and supportive
environment. Participants become "competent" in their own families.
Individual Counseling: FACES uses a holistic approach with individuals for therapeutic counseling.
Our agency emphasizes the use of behavioral/cognitive therapies to reduce symptoms of stress, depression, and anxiety. Rational-Emotive
techniques are used for individuals learning to cope with traumatic and life altering events.
Parenting Groups: The Parenting groups are structured in a community
like environment. Parents learn effective parenting skills and apply the skills during the sessions. Parents are
supported by Group Leaders and share their success in using the skills. Children are also given special time to work on how
they feel, think, and create safe environments, while their parents gain vital parenting skills.
Anger
Management Intervention: Anger managemnet intervention allows parents and children to identify
and work on "invitations to anger". Violent behaviors are identified in group settings. Control logs, action and
safety plans are completed and presented. The use of videos and art therapy provides positive ways in handling anger, identifying
and creating non-violent behavior.
Mentoring Program: Our mentoring program
provides guidance needed by many of our youth through a variety of services. We provide structured one on one weekly mentoring
sessions. Our families are included in the mentoring process to encourage the healthy emotional development of each child.
Couples Counseling: Therapy needs to be thought of in terms of discourse.
Men and women understand life differently. One general way of doing couple therapy is to include the concept of the "social
individual" as well as the concept of "we". Social and gender messages can be woven into one's interventions.
Drug Education Group: Our work will be based on a theoretical framework which
foundation states that substance abuse is a family disease. The family system may unwittingly encourage the development of
substance abuse issues being passed from one generation to the next. Our services will increase the family's awareness
of the generational impact of the disease and its progression as drawn from their family history. The counselor will help
the family become aware of their needs; in order to increase their communication around enduring healing which supports the
whole family as they engage in the recover process.
Domestic Violence Counseling: Domestic/Family Violence-Violence is an epidemic problem in this society. It is any attempt to control another individual
through various tactics of abuse. We will explore these tactics with our clientele, using safety plans and control logs to
assist in modifying those behaviors through negotiation, compromise and other skills that will help in improving relationships;
in addition to cognitive behavioral counseling that will challenge thinking patterns in relation to belief systems and expectations.
